The power save feature on your computer automatically switches off the monitor when the computer hasn't been used for a set period of time, saving energy bills and preventing a condition known as "screen burn" that can permanently damage the monitor display.
Although designed to benefit users, some might find the power save feature annoying, particularly business users who need to leave their computers regularly to make phone calls or attend meetings. If you want to disable the power save feature on your computer monitor to prevent it from switching off automatically, change the power management settings used by the Windows operating system.
Click the blue "More Power Options" link at the bottom of the pop-up window. Click and enable the "High Performance" radio button in the Additional Plans section in the lower half of the Power Options window.
Select the blue "Change Plan Settings" link next to the High Performance setting to open the plan settings editor window. Change the setting beside "Turn Off Display" to "Never" under both the "On Battery" and "Plugged In" headings. Change the setting beside "Put the Computer to Sleep" to "Never" under both headings.
Click the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the pane. Windows now disables the power save feature for the monitor so that it will no longer switch off after a set period of inactivity. Click the Start button.
