Until late last year, I NEVER listened to a podcast. I didn't even really understand the concept before I tried it out. Now, about 6 months later, I love podcasts! Actually, I drive about 25 minutes to work each direction, and I hate the radio because the commercials dominate it.
Now, I'm playing all kinds of podcasts, including a lot of different personal finance and investing podcasts, and it gets me through my commute each day. First, let's go back to the basics because that's where I was just six months ago. A podcast is basically an audio program that you can listen to on your iPhone or other cell phone. You can also listen to them on your desktop computer, or tablet.
The best way I can describe it is like commercial-free radio broadcast about a specific topic. For example, a recent memorable podcast I listened to was an interview with Jean Chatzky on the Two Guys and Your Money Podcast.
Most podcasts are anywhere from 20 minutes to over an hour, with an average of about minutes. That's where they come in as a great form of media — they are the perfect length for driving on a commute, for a workout, or for waiting while traveling. Think of it as an audio-blog post in some regards — you get the content you're looking for, but in an audio format so you can enjoy it on the move.
You can't really read a blog while driving! If you've never listened to a podcast, it's pretty easy to do. The iPhone comes with a built-in Podcast application, and Android phones can use the Stitcher app.

I think you'll find aspects of each podcast show entertaining. What's enjoyable about her show is that she has on different guests almost every episode, which allows for a great conversation about the subject.
As far as money podcasts go, she also has some of the highest quality guests. This podcast has a fun and upbeat tone.
Joe was formerly on Two Guys and Your Money Podcast. Joe has a variety of different guests and covers a wide variety of financial topics. This podcast is a bit different — it's short and sweet. In this podcast, Money Girl from Quick and Dirty Tips provides a quick personal finance or investing tip — usually in about 10 minutes or less.
The tips are typically pretty actionable, so be ready to learn and make use of some great money tips.
Instead of covering a broad range of generic financial topics this podcast concentrates a lot of its message on one thing: On the Cashflow Diary podcast you can learn about investing, real estate, and building businesses that bring in six figures per month. These shows are on the longer side, but they are well worth your time investment.
Motley Fool Money is the same show that is syndicated on radio stations across the United States by the team at Motley Fool. That makes it a little different since it is much more professional than the others, but the premise holds the same — interviews with business leader and authors, and insights on the markets. They also give an inside look at the stocks that they are looking at. The Motley Fool has always been a favorite of investors, and their podcast channels the same level of content as their website.
The Investors Podcast is built around one premise: These podcasts are weekly and tend to be pretty in-depth, but they make for great listening if you're into the subject of how billionaires made their money and what strategies they employed. Opposite Money Girl's podcast, Jim Puplava goes the opposite direction and hosts a much longer podcast — about 3 hours per week broken into 3 different hour long podcasts.
This podcast has interesting interviews with investors and authors, as well as insights into the market and the economy.
This podcast goes live with a new episode about once or twice a week, but the length makes that amount of posting work. The InvestTalk Podcast by Steve Peaslet is pretty much like an audio blog, and, in my eyes, a very traditional podcast.
This is a daily show that last about 45 minutes, and covers investing topics just like on my site here. For example, last week included topics on REITs, Socially Responsible Investing, Mutual Funds, and Bonds. They also talk about specific stocks during some episodes, which is interesting. The Bigger Pockets Podcast is the number one podcast for real estate investing.
The hosts Josh Dorkin and Brandon Turner both have very fun personalities making this is an informative and highly entertaining podcast to listen to. Radical Personal Finance , hosted by Joshua Sheats, has quickly become another favorite financial podcast to turn to. As a Certified Financial Planner Joshua covers a myriad of personal finance and investing topics.
This show also has several episodes per week with a wide variety of guests. Michael Covel is the founder of a privately owned research firm Trend Following and he shares some of his macro-economic and sometimes much more specific insights on his weekly podcast.
Sometimes he has on interviews that also help explain macro economic topics. If you're interested in looking at how the global economy or macro economic trends could impact your portfolio, this is a great podcast for you. The Traders Podcast with Rob Booker is about living better and trading more profitably. This is a very specific podcast towards trading, but Rob has had on recent guests that have been included in my list of top female investors. If you want to learn more about trading, this is a great podcast for you to give you some great ideas and insights.
Another Certified Financial Planner Podcast worth listening to is Good Financial Cents by Jeff Rose. In his podcast Jeff shares inspiring stories as well as tips on retirement planning and investing. Jeff doesn't post as regularly as other shows, but when there is new content, it's typically top notch. Are you more of an index investor instead of a trader? Then Ron DeLegge's Index Investing Podcast is for you. On his show he gives a good mix of interviews, education, stock market news, and general commentary on the state of the economy.
He doesn't really give specific stock tips, but does talk about the overall market and how you can use index investing and ETFs. These last couple are not investing related, but still very interesting, especially if you like business, start-ups, or online marketing.

Maybe not your thing, maybe you'd give it a try? The Tim Ferriss Show has grown to become one of the most popular podcasts on iTunes, and for good reason. Tim Ferriss the author of the Four Hour Workweek drops knowledge every single week with amazing interviews of A-list individuals. His goal of the podcast is to dissect what makes top performers tick, and he has wide ranging conversations that are incredibly interesting.
This show is long. Some episodes go two hours. But it's worth it to listen over multiple sessions. This is the podcast that got me started, so I had to include it. Each week, Pat Flynn from Smart Passive Income gives some great insight into online marketing and online business. There are a lot of actionable tips, and he usually has interesting guests bi-weekly. If you're interested in growing your business, this is the podcast for you.
